The Heart Un-Healthy Western Diet

“God sendeth and giveth both mouth and meat.” Thomas Tusser

“The beef industry has contributed to more American deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of `real food for real people,’ you’d better live real close to a real good hospital.” Dr. Neal D. Bernard, MD

The ‘Western’ Diet is a ‘meat-sweet’ diet. This diet is high in red and processed meats, sweets, fried foods, refined grains, and desserts. And after almost a century, it has finally become clear that this diet has become a serious threat to our health.

Obesity is primarily related to excessive caloric intake. The meat-sweet diet of USA has resulted in sixty-five percent of adults aged 20 y being either overweight or obese. Unfortunately, the numbers are increasing and the estimated number of deaths ascribable to obesity growing. The western diet is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer. Cardiovascular disease is the cause of 38.5% of all deaths in the US. Almost 65 million Americans suffer from cardiovascular disease. The second leading cause of death is cancer in the US. It is estimated that one third of all cancers (25% of all deaths ) are related to diet and obesity. Other chronic diseases strongly related to and influenced by the western diet are hypertension (50 million Americans), diabetes (11 million), elevated cholesterol (37 million) and osteoporosis (7.2 million) and osteopenia (39.6 million). Hip fractures greatly increase the mortality, and osteoporosis plays a major role in this disease.

Indications of the dangerous nature of the western diet started emerging almost a century ago. In 1916, Dutch physician De Langen published a study of showing the higher cholesterol levels of Dutch immigrants as those of the native Javanese. This almost double cholesterol level was associated with metabolic diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity, and nephritis. In 1950’s, Keys and coworkers found that cholesterol levels and coronary heart disease mortality rates were high in United States and Finland, while being low in Japan and southern Europe. They attributed this to the substantial differences in the dietary patterns – an early indication that the ‘Western” diet was heart unhealthy.

In 1958 a major scientific study called the Seven Countries Study, involving 12,763 men between the ages of 40 to 59 years began. These countries were the United States, Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, the former Yugoslavia, and Japan. Over a period of 25 years, about 6000 men died, of which 1500 men died of coronary heart disease. Populations with the highest consumption of animal food groups, with the exception of fish, had a much higher 25-year coronary heart disease mortality rates, when compared to populations with the highest vegetable, grains, fish and wine consumption. During the start of the study, the consumption of milk, potatoes, butter, and sugar products was very high in Finland. Netherlands had a similar but lower consumption pattern. Meat, pastry and fruit consumption (meat-sweet diet) was high in the United States. The Italians ate a lot of cereal and drank moderate amounts of wine while bread consumption was high in the former Yugoslavia. Greeks consumed high amounts of olive oil and fruit, while the Japanese were fond of fish, rice, and soy products. Heart attacks… God’s revenge for eating his little animal friends. -Author Unknown

How did the western diet emerge? The Western diet developed gradually over the last 200 years and was mainly a result of industrialization. In the prehistoric times, milk intake was limited to mother’s milk as it was impossible to milk wild animals. “The human body has no more need for cows’ milk than it does for dogs’ milk, horses’ milk, or giraffes’ milk.” -Michael Klaper, MD, author of Vegan Nutrition: Pure & Simple. With domestication of cows and other animals and subsequent ability for refrigeration, a whole host of dairy products became a staple of the western diet. The mechanized steel roller mills and automated sifting devices of today remove most of the germ and bran of the cereal grains, leaving mainly the endosperm as flour. The recent production of high fructose corn syrup greatly increased refined sugar consumption. Industrialization also produced more atpical vegetable oils for consumption that are high in trans fatty acids, as is seen in margarine and shortening. Salt intake is very high in the United States. Unfortunately 90% of the salt in the typical US diet comes from manufactured salt that is added to the food supply, and not from salt added while cooking or from the table.

“Meat, which contains cholesterol and saturated fat, was never intended for human beings, who are natural herbivores.”William C. Roberts, M.D. and Editor in Chief, American Journal of Cardiology, vol. 66, October 1, 1990. Unlike meat from wild animals or pasture raised cattle, 99% of all the beef consumed in the United States is high in the unhealthy saturated fatty acids and n-6 fatty acids and low in the beneficial n-3 fatty acids. This meat is mainly produced from grain-fed, feedlot cattle. “The beef industry has contributed to more American deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of `real food for real people,’ you’d better live real close to a real good hospital.” -Neal D. Barnard, M.D.

The western diet is also deficient in micronutrients (At least half the US population fails to meet the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin B-6, vitamin A, magnesium, calcium, and zinc, and 33% of the population does not meet the RDA for folate), is conducive to an acidic body status (fish, meat, poultry, eggs, shellfish, cheese, milk, and cereal grains are net acid producing, whereas fresh fruit, vegetables, tubers, roots, and nuts are net base producing.), has less potassium (Industrial periods caused a 400% decline in the potassium intake while simultaneously initiating a 400% increase in sodium ingestion ) and fiber (refined sugars, vegetable oils, dairy products, and alcohol, are all devoid of fiber. Refined grains contain about 400% less fiber when compared to whole grains, and the former represent 85% of the grains consumed in the United States). These are all detrimental to the health, especially cardiac health. Because normally with Western cuisine, you’ll serve vegetables separate from the meat, so kids will eat the meat and never touch the vegetables. Martin Yan. Vegetables and fruits are mainly side dishes or desserts in the Western Diet.

More die in the United States of too much food than of too little. -John Kenneth Galbraith, The Affluent Society. The western diet has also become an excessive calorie diet, resulting in the obesity epidemic in the western world, with all its health consequences. Americans eat 3,770 calories a day, and have the highest per capita daily consumption in the world. This is more than a Canadian at 3,590 calories or an Indian at 2,440, according to data from the UN Food and Agricultural Organization. Unfortunately switching to diet sodas does not help – a recent report has shown the diet soda drinkers may be more prone to the dangerous metabolic syndrome.

When combined with inactivity and smoking, the western diet has become lethal. So cut down on red meat, especially beef and change to a prudent heart healthy diet. So, as an old English Proverb warns: don’t dig your grave with your own knife and fork.

Remedies For Agitated Nerve Pain – Pain Relief

Causes of nerve pain are numerous but the main ones include:

-Damaged and/or compressed nerves due to a traumatic event such as a fall,

-Nerve damage following surgery,

-Sciatica,

-Plantar fasciitis or foot pain in general,

-Fibromyalgia, pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons,

-Nerve damage caused by drug abuse,

-Post-herpetic Neuralgia (PHN), the onset pain from the Shingles Rash,

-Diabetes, neuropathy and neuropathic pain.

To get pain relief, you have several options, but none of them work all the time, and most are not without risk to your body one way or the other. The body has the unique ability to adjust to most medications, in that, over time given sustained use; it requires more and more of the same pain relief medicine to achieve the same level of pain relief.

  • The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney diseases reports that over the counter NSAIDS such as aspirin, ibuprofen and the like may temporarily ease your pain but their use is not without risk to other areas of your body.
  • Any product with capsaicin as an ingredient may offer temporary pain relief.
  • Certain depressants such as amitriptyline, imipramine, or nortriptyline are sometimes effective.
  • Clinical trials indicate that Mexiletine is effective in treating pain.
  • Codeine can be used for a short time to relieve pain, but it can be very addictive.
  • Homeopathic Drugs and Applications can be very effective.
  • Alternative medicines such as Menastil, EZ Pain Relief and Heartland are topically applied.
  • Other pain treatments…
    • Acupuncture
    • Electrical stimulation devices (TENS)
    • Hypnosis
    • Biofeedback

Special Note: The American Medical Association does not accept homeopathy, but it doesn’t reject it either. “The AMA encourages doctors to become aware of alternative therapies and use them when and where appropriate,” says AMA spokesman Jim Fox. “Even professionals who practice homeopathy warn that nothing in medicine–either conventional or alternative–is absolute”, states Mr. Fox.

The key to dealing with your pain is understanding the root cause of pain. ALL pain, is due to nerve damage agitation, no exceptions. The level of nerve agitation and resultant pain is directly related to the inflammation present in the painful area which reduces the level of blood and oxygen flow into the

infected area.

The most effective pain relief medications, cause the nerve ends to relax and allow the blood and oxygen to flow back into the infected area to effectively cut-off the signals to the spinal cord and therefore to the brain resulting in pain relief. You still have the problem, you just do not feel it as much.

Non-narcotic, non-addictive, all natural pain relief medications are available from The Centre for Pain Relief. Check out their website to determine if one of their products can help you with your painful condition.

Hopefully, these facts will help you to better monitor your children’s weight situation. A child at a time, this issue can be brought under control. All it takes is some parents that really love their children and don’t mind taking a little time and doing what it takes.

Dissociative Disorders – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

People affected with dissociative disorders chronically escape their reality in involuntary, unhealthy ways ranging from suppressing memories to assuming alternate identities. There are four major dissociative disorders: dissociative amnesia; dissociative identity disorder; dissociative fugue; and depersonalization disorder. Common symptoms include memory loss of certain time periods, events and people; mental health problems; depersonalization; derealization; and a blurred sense of identity. Dissociative disorders usually develop as a mechanism for coping with trauma.

Treatment for dissociative disorders may include psychotherapy, hypnosis and medication. Creative art therapy and cognitive therapy may also help in treating this condition. The Ayurvedic treatment of dissociative disorders is aimed at treating the basic cause of this condition and preventing complications like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, severe headaches, sleep disorders, alcoholism, substance abuse, sexual dysfunction, self-mutilation and suicide attempts.

Medicines like Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), Brahmi-Vati, Khurasani-ova (Hyoscyamus niger), Brahmi-Ghrut, Unmaad-Gaj-Kesari, Sutshekhar and Maha-Vat-Vidhvans are used in high doses to treat anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and the original dissociative disorder. An addition of Suvarna-Bhasma, Abhrak-Bhasma, Trivang-Bhasma and Laxmi-Vilas-Ras to the above mentioned medicines helps in increasing the therapeutic response

Different Panchkarma procedures can be used to treat patients with dissociative disorders. A whole-body massage is done using medicated oils like Mahanarayan oil, Mahamash oil and Mahasaindhav oil. The patient is asked to consume regularly medicated ghees like Brahmi-Ghrut, Panch-Gavya-Ghrut and Kalyanak-Ghrut, in high doses. These two procedures comprise the ‘Snehan’ therapy. Medicated enemas are given using Dashmool-Qadha and Sahachar oil. ‘Nasya’ therapy is done using medicated nose drops like Vacha oil, Marich (Piper nigrum) and Gud-Sunthi. The three combined procedures of nasya, snehan and medicated enemas initially have only a physical effect, however, on being repeated periodically they help to control the ‘Vata dosha’ and gradually help in controlling the dissociative features. ‘Shirobasti’ or ‘Shirodhara’ procedures may be used temporarily to sedate highly excited or disturbed patients.

Patients affected with dissociative disorders should be in regular touch with a Psychiatrist and a Counselor. They should establish a family and friend support system. Although the course of therapy can be difficult, many people with dissociative disorders are able to learn new ways of coping and lead healthy, productive lives.

Wrinkled Penis Skin – Causes, Treatments and Preventive Measures

A man has plenty to worry about in terms of the health and appearance of his penis – whether it be concerns about the size and shape, preventing injuries and disease or making sure it is functioning well enough to please himself and his partners. On top of all these worries, many men – even those as young as their twenties – report anxiety about the appearance of wrinkled penis skin. Fortunately, sagging, dry penis skin is generally not a sign of poor penis health, and in many cases, men are able to take steps to restore their equipment to its former glory. Here are just a few of the issues that can cause a wrinkled appearance, as well as some tips for smoothing and plumping the skin.

What causes a wrinkled penis?

1) Erections. Obviously, when the penis expands during an erection, the skin needs to stretch along with it. When an erection is present, the skin will appear taut and smooth, but once it retracts, the skin that was formerly stretched has nothing to fill it out; therefore, it tends to look a bit bunched and saggy. This issue is more evident in “growers” (men whose penises dramatically increase in size when erect) than “show-ers” (those whose size tends to remain fairly uniform, with only stiffening of the tissue to indicate an erection).

2) Frequent masturbation. Men who have been masturbating regularly for years, especially those who do not use a lubricant during the process, may experience some breakdown of the collagen tissue that gives the penile skin its elasticity and shape. The result is skin that doesn’t quite spring back into place easily after a masturbation session, and the foreskin in particular can appear a bit stretched and loose.

3) Yeast infections. Many men notice that, when they have a yeast infection (a fungal infection that can be passed between sexual partners), the glans and foreskin tend to take on a dry, wrinkled appearance. Elimination of the infection with medications generally resolves this problem, although healing can take some time. A high-quality moisturizer can help to alleviate the shriveled look.

4) Balanitis. Like yeast infections, the inflammatory condition known as balanitis can cause wrinkles or dryness on the glans. Balanitis is usually the result of substandard hygiene. Keeping the area clean and applying a moisturizer can generally clear up the problem.

5) Dehydration. Women are often told that the appearance of wrinkles and bags under their eyes is the result of dehydration. The same thing goes for the equally delicate penile skin – men who do not have a sufficient intake of fluid may notice that their members appear wrinkled and unattractive.

6) Aging. Finally, there’s no getting around it – as men get older, the collagen that gives the skin its tone and texture tends to thin and break down, and a wrinkled look is the natural result.

Reducing the appearance of wrinkled penile skin

While the skin of the penis will always be a little looser when the member is flaccid – after all, it needs room to expand whenever an erection occurs – there are some steps men can take to improve the overall appearance of the penis and make sure the skin is as resilient and supple as possible.

To start, a guy needs to make sure he is well-hydrated; getting enough fluids can plump out the skin and keep it looking fresh. He should also get plenty of exercise to make sure the heart is pumping enough blood through the veins. An adequate supply of blood is needed to nourish the penile tissue and allow it to appear healthy and vibrant. Nutrition is also an important consideration – a man should be eating a balanced diet of lean proteins, heart-healthy fats and high-quality carbohydrates to provide the nutrients the skin needs to stay strong and elastic.

Finally, a man can improve the look and feel of his penile skin by including a top-drawer penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) as part of his daily personal care regimen. Applying a moisturizing cream that is fortified with vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants can help men to fight off wrinkle-causing free radicals and to maintain healthy and youthful skin tone.

Film Treatment Format

There is no magical formula for writing a film treatment format. Format the film treatment according to its intended audience. There are two main audiences, the audience who will ultimately view the film and the audience person or people who will initially judge its merit. Additionally, the executive will take serious consideration into how well the audience will like the completed film.

The following elements of the film treatment format considered:

• Font name and size, spacing

• Language

• Page numbering

• Length of the treatment

• Quotation marks

• Character names

• Margins

• Binding

• Information contained on the first page

Font – Adopt an easy-to-read font in the film treatment format. Most of the well-established producers prefer Courier New, 12-point typeface, although Times New Roman or Arial will also suffice. Do not indent the paragraphs simply include a double space between them. Single spacing is used everywhere else.

Language – Use present tense throughout and write in first person. Make use of powerful words that convey a whole lot of meaning. Make the reader feel as if he is viewing a trailer of the screenplay and not reading a treatment. Write in paragraphs unlike screenplays that follow definite structure. Treatments reflect the tone of the script – whether it is humorous, romantic, ironical etc. Film treatment format requires every paragraph to be short and light.

Page numbering – The page number should appear as a header on the top right hand corner. The front page is left un-numbered.

Length – Ideally the length of a treatment should not exceed 15 pages. The accepted norm is 5 –12 pages. There are variations in this depending upon the genre of the treatment. A drama may be longer while a comedy is shorter in length. It all depends upon how many details you would like to include which in turn, depends upon the purpose of the treatment

Quotation marks – Unlike scripts, quotation marks are used to show dialogues in treatments.

Character names – The first time a character’s name appears, it should be entirely in capital letters.

Margins – Like a screenplay, a film treatment format too requires it to be written on 81/2 x 11 inch, three hole punched paper. The top and bottom margins vary between.5 – 1 inch, left margin is between 1.2 – 1.6 inches and the right margin is between.5 – 1 inch. The extra inch in the left side is to give a balanced look to the print. There are no hard and fast rules regarding the margins.

Binding – The three holes are used for binding with brads.

Front page – This should contain vital information such as a working title, author’s name and contact information, WGA number, a log line, and the total number of pages.

Executives are busy so keep the treatment brief and include all the key points only. Do not go into unnecessary details. A couple of carefully chosen words will suffice to convey the story to these people. In case you are planning to use it as a road map or for a friend whom you would like to involve, be as descriptive as possible, without being too stringent regarding following the norms laid down by the industry.

IBS Treatment – The Magic Of Cumin To Treat Bloating And Constipation

One of the major symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the gas buildup in the stomach. The gas, if not relieved, will cause cramping, colon spasm and major discomfort. Sometimes this can be so severe, that the IBS sufferer has to be confined to bed rest. Cumin – a common Indian herb may be the answer to removing the gas buildup. This is a natural method that provides a safe and easy approach to eliminating the gas build up in the stomach.

Cumin’s properties are stomachic, diuretic, carminative, stimulant and antispasmodic. It is valuable in dyspepsia diarrhea and hoarseness, and it is known to relieve flatulence and colic. Cumin is a stimulating medicinal herb and it contains compounds that fight inflammation, pain and swelling.

To make a tea with cumin, it is best to have the seeds that have been harvested from home-grown plants, like everything else. You can find cumin seeds in health food stores. To make a tea with cumin steep one teaspoon of dried and gently crushed cumin seeds in one cup of boiling water. Let the cumin seeds steep in the water for ten to twenty minutes.

After the gently crushed cumin seeds have been steeped for ten to twenty minutes, you should strain out the cumin seeds and drink the cumin tea. Drink one or two cups of the cumin tea a day to help relieve the swelling and inflammation. Sip the liquid while it is hot. Drink after a meal.

Cumin is believed to aid in the absorption of iron. If you have an iron deficiency you may want to try some cumin tea. So this is also good for women who are menstruating. Iron helps build blood cells.

Cumin is also good if you have indigestion or gas. If you are having trouble with indigestion or gas you may want to try some cumin tea to help relieve the indigestion or gas. This is what IBS sufferers know.

Other uses of Cumin:

  • Roasted cumin seeds can also freshen the breath.
Chewing roasted cumin seeds can also heal soars in the mouth and reduce excess saliva.
  • Cumin tea cures problems in the urinary tract, cleans the bladder and kidneys.
  • Combined with fenugreek, they help to keep the prostate healthy and reduce problems in the male and female reproductive organs and urinary systems.
  • A teaspoon of cumin boiled in water reduces pain in the body and acts as a natural sleep aid for those who have difficulty falling asleep.
  • Cumin tea can be drunk to reduce the symptoms of common cold and sore throat.
  • Cumin helps to remove excess phlegm and is thus good taken during allergy season or at the onset of a cold.

The main benefit of cumin as an IBS treatment is that it helps to regulate bowel function and can help to stop diarrhea by eating it with a bit of sugar candy. Cumin and fennel combined in equal parts and chewed or boiled as a tea help to promote digestion. Combined with turmeric and peppercorn it becomes a very good digestive aid and immune booster. Cumin can be chewed after a meal to promote digestion and reduce stomachache.

Toenail Fungus Remedies You Need To Try Before Getting The Laser For Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus can be a chronic problem for many people. It can affect one of more of the toenails and lead to poor appearance of the nails and spreading infection. Toenail fungus can be a particular problem for those with diabetes. Your physician can help you to find remedies for fungus infections of the nails.

What Causes Toenail Fungus?

Toenail fungus is caused by microscopic organisms that can grow in dark and damp places. Feet are the perfect breeding ground for fungus organisms because they remain in socks and shoes for long periods of time, away from sunlight and often damp from sweat. Fungus can also be picked up from public areas like swimming pools and locker rooms.

Aging often brings nail fungus problems because nails grow more slowly as people age and have a poorer blood supply. Men acquire nail fungus infections much more often than women do. These infections also tend to run in families.

Home Remedies That Can Work on Yellow and White Toenail Fungus:

Many home remedies have been used for years to inhibit the growth of toenail fungus:

  • Simple household vinegar can be used as a foot soak, with 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Soak the feet for up to 20 minutes daily.
  • Many people use medicated chest rub applied directly to the toenails daily to stop the fungus growth.
  • Isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen hydroxide applied directly to the affected nails several times a day can also help to clear up the infection.
  • Other people have success with tea tree oil, available at health food stores, to treat the nails.
  • Others try anti-fungal creams and even dandruff shampoos to treat toenail fungus with some success.

Traditional Medical Treatments

Before you have laser treatments, your physician may also prescribe a number of other methods that are available for nail fungus. The physician may file the surface of the nail and prescribe topical medications can be applied to the nail over a period of time.

Oral medications such as itraconazole can be helpful. Generally, you take this medication for 6 to 12 weeks. It gradually grows a new nail free of fungus and can take up to 4 months to see successful results. An anti-fungal nail lacquer called ciclopirox is also available.

This compound is applied to the affected nail and surrounding skin daily for 7 days. Then, it is removed and a fresh coating is applied. It can take up to a year for complete eradication of the fungus.

If the infection is severe and causes chronic pain, surgery may be necessary to remove the nail. A new nail will grow in within a few months.

If you need a powerful home treatment and want to avoid the doctor at all costs:

Your Urine – Therapy For Your Skin

I remember vividly I was browsing the internet two years ago and came across this topic “urine therapy”.

Gross! How can someone do that? Urine on your face, that’s absurd right?

Well I was in for a ride, because there are numerous benefits to using urine (whether internally or externally). I shared the idea with a close friend to hear her opinion on it. It turned out her grandmother – an old country woman (who looked decades younger than her ripe old age at that time) had been applying facial urine therapy for decades and had told her daughters and granddaughters to do the same. That anecdote won me over… After all I had nothing to lose. Still hesitant, I decided to do some more research online and discovered that a number of leading models (of both genders) use urine therapy to combat everything ranging from acne to aging. So, I took a leap of faith and started urine therapy. Over two years, totally comfortable with the application daily I am convinced that this works. Although there are people who drink their urine (over 3 million Chinese) and high percentages in some European countries that are into natural health, it takes a level of acceptance and openness to drink one’s urine- which I am not at that stage-yet (and may never get there – I admit).

After a year of using urine therapy my skin is impeccable, it glows and feels as soft and new. The first time I applied it to my face there was a tingling feeling on my skin, obviously reacting to the foreign substance applied. After weeks of application my skin had no reaction when the urine was applied. To my surprise and you maybe shocked, there is no fowl smell on the skin after the urine is applied and it disappears and is visually undetectable. That observation made me continue as the odor could have deterred my interest in seeing the end result.

My routine…

So what do I do? I wake up in the mornings and while peeing I use a roll of tissue to catch the urine just enough to wet it. By the way, they recommend using your first pee in the morning because it is more concentrated and therefore more effective. Afterward I face the mirror and wipe the wet tissue on my face (forehead, chin, around the eyes, jaws, avoiding the lips and eyes). I allow the skin to process the urine therapy for 15 -30 minutes, then wash my face. When I started I would only give it about ten minutes but after seeing the results I began extending the period, even doing it twice daily. One of my friends (the same one with the super young grandmother) leaves hers on for hours at a time, unless she has to go to work or be around other people. It all depends on the user. Logically, the longer you leave it on, the more the acid contained in the urea can remove dead layers of skin. The model testimonials I saw (you can YouTube the topic) mentioned a half hour, so I decided to stick to that.

Anyway, as I was saying, in a week I saw radical changes to the appearance of my skin which made me very happy. An unbeliever was now persuaded. I did not have severe acne but I had skin issues. Today, I am content, truly happy I started urine therapy. Every once in a while, depending on work stress and diet, I’ll have a little skin crisis for a day, but over all I can safely say the improvement is noticeable and consistent. Many of my friends have skin issues -acne, blemishes, blackheads, whiteheads etc and they have tried everything on the market but nothing works-even bleaching. I would like to tell them all to try urine therapy. Don’t be embarrassed! I had the same gut reaction too because we are all products of our upbringing and, unless you’re from some distant indigenous tribe on some uncharted island, or you’re from my friend’s family (the one with the youthful grandma), you probably weren’t raised to even think of putting urine on your face. That’s for the toilet, right? Maybe not entirely… You might think its nasty but you could be flushing the secret to your own fountain of youth. Let’s not forget, if you’re someone who cares about being youthful and having healthy skin, think about how much money you’re spending on products with harsh chemicals and questionable results when a little dab of your own excess fluids and urea could do the same job or better for free!

I get compliments all the time about my skin and people always presume I’m much younger. I am 23 years old, not 18 or 20. I’ve even been mistaken for a very tall, mature 16 year old. Gosh… that was one of the nicest days of my life. I beamed for the whole week after hearing that one!

Anyway, don’t just take my word for it, or the word of some of these top models. Don’t take the word of my friend’s jetsetting granny either. Take a look at what gold old Wikipedia has to say about it

According to Wikipedia, in alternative medicine, “the term urine therapy (also urotherapy, urinotherapy or uropathy) refers to various applications of human urine for medicinal or cosmetic purposes, including drinking of one’s urine and massaging one’s skin with one’s own urine.”

Your urine is not as nasty as you think. It consists of 95% water, 2.5% of urea, and 2.5% is a mixture of minerals, salts, hormones and enzymes. The research for this blog proved to be true. Millions of people are experiencing the great benefits of urine therapy offers and it can be the same for you. Urine therapy is used to cure or relieve a variety of ailments, such as, arthritis, hepatitis, multiple sclerosis, eczema, psoriasis, diabetes, herpes and adrenal failure. This form of therapy is also used to assist with snakebites, jellyfish and bee stings. It is important to note that urine is the main ingredient in infertility drugs. (I did NOT know that, folks!)

Urine therapy can be used as eye drops for conjunctivitis and glaucoma and in the ear for ear infections.

I shared with a friend that I would be posting this testimonial about urine therapy. Yeah! I did. When I started two years ago it was ‘CIA’ top secret information. Now, I see the effects and the benefits I am pleased I started it. This blog post was not written to force you to begin your own urine therapy. This is not for the faint of heart, but for those who have nothing to lose and will try something new to see results. I haven’t used urine therapy constantly; there were times when I stopped and immediately all the zits and blackheads returned like an army. Today, it is part of my daily regime because I have seen a clear difference between what my skin is like with it and without it. I mentioned my secret to another friend who looks a lot younger than his age and he said that he’d been using it for years and, after seeing results, stopped buying the barrage of skincare products he used to use for his adult onset acne and seborrheic eczema.

Why not share the secret? More people need to know about this.

Nutritional Supplements – Should I Take Them?

Lots of people take nutritional supplements to bridge nutritional gaps in their diet or as proactive health measures against certain health conditions. Are you sure you are taking the right nutritional supplement specific to your health needs? Taking some time to assess your health needs can help you choose the best supplement for optimal health. But your question may be more basic: Do I really need to take nutritional supplements? We live in unique times. Stress, pollution, conveniently accessible processed foods, unhealthy eating habits and sedentary lifestyles overtime can take their heavy toll on our health. This may manifest itself in bouts of tiredness, unhealthy weight gain, digestive problems, insomnia, or a weak immune system. In addition to these common symptoms of poor health, each of us has uniquely individual health needs.Taking care of your body today is like investing in your health for tomorrow. Let’s address some common reasons why many people do not take nutritional supplements. And those who do take nutritional supplements may also discover that you can benefit by changing or adding nutritional supplements to your diet as you assess your individual health needs.Let’s begin with:

  • I don’t need nutritional supplements. I eat healthy and get enough nutrition through my diet.I would suggest you do a simple exercise to confirm whether your diet is meeting your nutritional needs. Note down everything that you eat for two weeks, including the quantity. Check a nutrition table and track the nutrient value of everything you eat. After two weeks, work out your daily average and check your daily rating against your RDAs. You may be in for a slight shock! Statistics show that most Americans don’t meet their nutritional needs.
Lack of protein, too many carbohydrates. You might find that your diet lacks protein but is too high in carbohydrates. This is very common in the American diet. Cutting down on the carbs and supplementing your diet with spirulina or chlorella (high-protein content) will help fill this nutritional gap.
Lack of fiber. Another common feature is lack of adequate fiber. Fiber supplements are available as an individual product or may be included as an ingredient in a whole food nutritional supplement. Fiber is known to bind toxins in your GI tract and help speed its transit through your digestive system, thus minimizing their absorption in the body. Fiber is also known to promote healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels. If your diet falls short on many RDA counts, consider taking a superfood supplement which includes multi-vitamins, minerals, protein, dietary fiber, probiotics and enzymes for good digestion.
  • I have a busy life. I’ve tried taking them, but my schedule doesn’t allow me to be consistent. I travel a lot.If you lead a busy lifestyle, taking a nutritional supplement regularly will help you have the energy and concentration power you need to perform at your maximum best. You may be on the go all the time and miss out on meals. Nutritional supplements are available in convenient-to-carry individual packets. This is usually in powdered form to be mixed with water. You can carry packets with you any where you go, and use it any time you feel the need for an energy pick-up.It is important to attend to your health needs as a priority, in addition to the many other important demands in your life. A busy schedule can add stress to your life. Stress can increase the toxin levels in your body. Not only would your body need to be armed with B-complex, but nutrients like resveratol and omega 3s can help to increase your concentration and cognitive abilities. Green tea is also known to have soothing benefits for a tired mind.
  • I don’t know which nutritional supplement to take. Take some time to assess your health needs. The simple exercise mentioned above will help you find your nutritional needs. You can either adjust your diet to meet your needs or introduce supplements to bridge the nutritional gaps. If you are still unsure, seek the advice of your doctor before you take any supplement. However, everyone can benefit from taking a multi-vitamin supplement. An effervescent multi-vitamin formula is the best since it allows 99% bioavailability. Look for one from a reputed company.
  • I take a multi-vitamin. I don’t think I need to take anything else.As research on nutrition advances, there are more nutritional supplements available to strategically help you with specific health needs. Some might be formulated for health conditions you are facing or you may likely face because you are in a higher risk category for such diseases. These include:

High cholesterol levels. If your cholesterol levels test high, or you have a family history of coronary disease, then you should look for herbal supplements that can help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Omega 3 supplementation is advisable for improved heart health. Look for a pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Other nutrients for heart health include resveratrol, cocoa and green tea. Some products contain a combination of all 3 for powerful antioxidant power that promotes cardiovascular health.
Diabetes. Green tea is also known to help support healthy blood sugar levels. Green tea supplements are available in various forms.
Arthritis: Omega 3 fatty acids, along with other nutrients such as glucosamine sulfate, methyl sulfonyl methane (MSM), hyal joint have been well researched for their role in supporting joint health.
Stress Induced Conditions. Stress is known to cause poor immune health and a host of health issues such as premature aging due to free radical damage. Antioxidants also help to reduce free radical activity. Free radical activity is the unstable activity of cells which can lead to their malfunction and malformation. Antioxidants help maintain normal cellular growth and repair of cells.

  • I’m scared I may overdose. It is very unlikely that you will overdose from nutritional supplements. Nutritional supplements do not provide you your complete RDAs-just a portion of them. The rest you must get from eating a balanced diet.
